Azivault privacy policy

Azivault does not receive your backup contents or recovery password. The macOS app processes backup data locally and writes encrypted repository objects only to destinations you configure.

Backup data

File contents, relative paths, repository keys, and recovery passwords are processed locally by the app. Azivault does not operate a backup storage service and cannot read the encrypted repositories you write to local, network, external, or S3-compatible storage.

Photos data and permissions

For a Photos plan, Azivault uses Apple's PhotoKit interface to read the resources, supported metadata, and user-created album organization that you select from the System Photo Library. The app can ask PhotoKit to retrieve selected resources from iCloud Photos. Azivault encrypts that data locally before writing it to the destination that you configure.

macOS controls Photos access for the main app and the separate scheduler helper. Titles, captions, and keywords require a separate Photos Automation permission. If you deny that permission, Azivault records a coverage warning rather than sending the missing metadata to Azivault or another service.

Website analytics

This website uses PostHog Cloud in the United States to understand how visitors use our public pages. PostHog automatically records page views and interactions such as clicks and link selections. It can also create session replays from page state and interactions. All input fields are masked in session recordings. Analytics data can include page and referring URLs, page and element metadata, and browser and device information. It can also include randomly generated analytics and session identifiers stored in browser local storage and a first-party cookie. PostHog processes network information when it receives a request.

Website analytics are associated with anonymous analytics identifiers; we do not ask website visitors to identify themselves or connect these analytics to backup contents, repository keys, or recovery material. See PostHog's privacy policy.

Apple app analytics

If you opt into Apple's App Analytics, we may receive anonymized crash reports and usage data. To opt out, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements on your Mac. For more information, see Apple's App Analytics privacy page

Support

If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to include in your message and use it to respond to the request. We may ask you to share a diagnostic bundle generated from Help > Generate Support Bundle in the app. This bundle may include system stats and logs, but it has been designed to exclude and redact file paths and other local information. You can review the contents of the bundle before sharing it with us. File contents are never included.

Billing

Billing is handled through the Mac App Store. We do not have access to your payment information. For more information, see Apple's privacy policy.

Cloud services

If you choose to store your recovery key in iCloud Keychain then it will be subject to Apple's privacy policy.

If you choose to back up to a cloud storage provider like Amazon S3 or Backblaze B2 then your data will be subject to the privacy policy of that provider. All backups are encrypted locally on your Mac before being uploaded.

Children

Azivault is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a support request, contact us so we can delete it. The app does not require an Azivault account.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
