How to choose a Mac backup app

Start with the failure you need to survive

An accidentally overwritten file calls for fast version browsing. A dead Mac may require migration. A stolen laptop and backup disk require an offsite copy. Ransomware raises questions about retention, account isolation, and object lock.

  • Use Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner when local recovery speed and Mac migration dominate.
